Layering up - our favourites
Reminiscing on warmer times? Have no fear! We have a great range of products to keep you enjoying your time on the water as we head into the colder months.
Remember: Base, Mid, Outer, Extremities
BASE: The base layer is about keeping you warm. Think thermal layers, designed to withstand water. Our favourites include the Zhik Hydrophobic Fleece-top and leggings, and Sandiline Polartec top. These are plush fleece items with excellent water repellency, and an all over weather shield that will keep you comfortable and dry.
MID: The middle layer is the neoprene layer. The neoprene you need will be influenced by the sport you choose. We stock a range of hikers, long-johns, and full wetsuits all designed for laser sailing, wind-surfing or oppie sailing. For those who really want to embrace a winters sail, we recommend the Sandiline 5mm Arctic Hikers and Shirt!
OUTER: The outer layer is all about protection from the wind and rain. Think spray tops, sallopettes and aqua fleeces. Our favourites are the Rooster Aqua Fleece Pro top, created using a stretchy waterproof Aquafleece fabric, or the Sandiline Spray Top - a durable spraytop for rough cold weather conditions. The wrist neck gaskets are made with superstretch primaskin neoprene which feels comfortable and assures very good water tightness at the same time.
EXTREMITIES: Finally, be sure to think about your extremities! Your hands and feet are the parts of your body that will get cold first but, luckily, there are a range of products available to help keep your digits warm. Our top picks? The Rooster Hot Hands and Hot Socks provide some insulation, with a titanium impregnated reflective lining that reflects heat back to your body. Rooster also offer aqua-beanies made from a Supertherm® neoprene to help keep your melon warm, whilst this Zhik Neck Gaitor also keeps wind away as well as water and sun.
"Using the right kit will help you improve your performance and can mean the difference between a good day of sailing, and a great one!"
