Going round in circles to save the environment

Recycling wetsuits is tough. But with 60,000 tonnes of neoprene going to landfill annually, something has to change. That's why we're partnering with Circular Flow, a neoprene recycling brand, to help implement a sustainable wetsuit economy.

From now on when you buy a wetsuit at Sandy Point Watersports, you can get 10% off if you donate your old wetsuit.

By partnering with Circular Flow, we ensure your old wetsuit doesn't end up in landfill and instead goes on to make new products such as yoga mats, bags and flip flops.

How does it all work?

We'll work with Circular Flow to get your old wetsuit to their recycling centre. From there, Circular Flow undertake a full mechanical recycling breakdown of end-of-life wetsuits and off-cuts, into granules or chips. They then re-process these into new, recycled neoprene – rather than merely cutting pieces out of old wetsuits and repurposing them into new products, as others have done.

Their process transforms 100% of the old wetsuits into sheets that are then made into new items. Each stage of this journey is powered only by solar energy, and involves no melting, burning or use of hazardous chemicals, Plus, every non-neoprene part of the old wetsuit, such as the plastic or metal zips, are also recycled, so the process is truly zero waste.

So, if you're considering buying a new wetsuit and want to sustainably dispose of your old one, pop into our shop at the Hayling Island Sailing Club and start going circular.
